Washington DC
Located in Logan Circle, this new 100,000 square-foot residential building adds a distinctly modern complement to a largely historic area. A market-rate development of ninety apartments, the Mondrian II, as it will be known, will be carefully integrated with its adjacent older sibling built in 1982. The brick and glass design with angled balconies was conceived to complement the existing building’s aesthetic and strong geometry but also to be sympathetic with the surrounding masonry context. A series of multi-floor “maisonette” apartments were created to animate 12th Street and relate to the row houses on the block.
